Hispanics in Austin are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 at higher than average rates representing: 54.5% of hospitalizations, 52% of COVID-19 cases, and 50% of deaths while representing 34.3% of the population of Austin. So a group of creatives including myself, created an educational creative campaign called “No Seas Wey,” which loosely translates to “Don’t Be a Fool” that encourages the community to take precautions, wear masks, maintain social distancing, and wash hands frequently. The campaign includes murals with a QR code that drives to noseaswey.com where Spanish speakers can find resources and information lacking in government sites. We are expanding to El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley next.
